Gold has always been a mark of opulence in traditional interiors. In contemporary interiors, modernists preferred silvery chrome and stainless steel and thought of anything with the color gold as possibly tacky, certainly too gaudy. But now gold-painted mirrors, shiny gold ceramics and gold-hued light fixtures are suddenly seen splashed across trend magazines.
