Ikea classics that will never go wrong

We Singaporeans simply love Ikea too much. Not just for the furniture/home accessories and other knick-knacks, but also the hassle free meals. Who doesn't love Ikea fried wings (chicken), right?

I personally do not go specifically to hunt for furniture in Ikea as we prefer long-lasting one of a kind pieces but these are stuff I wouldn't mind getting. I feel they get your creative juices going as your wouldn't want your affordable pieces to look cheap.

Furniture finds in Singapore :: King and King Wong

I dropped by King and King Wong (KKW), a Malaysian furniture retailer located in NEX mall, Serangoon. They are having a massive sale right now. All items are going at 50% off as they are moving out. Hopefully not out of Singapore.

Although I find the cost of furniture a bit on the high side, I do not mind bringing home their accessories and decor items. They have pretty nice stuff. Remember my turquoise chi dogs? I got the pair from KKW. A wide range of home essentials are available for the kitchen, display - apothecary jars and vases, laundry, paintings, bedding and furniture.

When I checked out KKW yesterday, most 'good' stuff were gone.

I'm not crazy about fake flowers but these ... just look SO real. They even feel real. I was on the verge of getting a purple hydrangea, some orchids and white roses (those were really gorgeous). But the snob in me emerged and I changed my mind. Sometimes I do not mind going an extra mile to get real flowers for my home.

If you are always on the lookout for decor items for events eg. crystals, candles, candle stands etc they have plenty of those left on the shelves all at 1/2 price. Do pop by quick but give them a call before heading down, just in case.

I ended up with ribbons, tinsels and black taper candles that were going for like SGD 2.60 each. I'm all set for gift-wrapping this year.

Furniture finds in Singapore :: Galanga Living

Unlike the other stores, I have not been to Galanga Living but follow them on Facebook. They do have great ethnic-inspired, unique items, perfect to hunt for that finishing touch in your precious home. I personally am intrigued by their wall storage boxes.

It is great space saver for a small apartment but I am a little on the fence about this. The problem is, I do not exactly know what to place on them, but you might. They have neon options. I LOVE these!

Furniture Finds in Singapore :: Hock Siong

Hock Siong is not your typical furniture showroom. With 3 large warehouses of furniture, accessories and glassware, it houses second hand loot that mainly comes from hotels and show flats. Dusty - not for those with allergies (you might want to wear a mask) and in an obscure part of the island, you have to be patient in your search for gems. Generally most items are still trendy but I tend to go more for accessories that are classic, unique and easily replaceable. Pieces that probably will not go out of style or items that can't be obtained anywhere else that cheap!

What I absolutely love about them is that they have a social media expert, Brillyn who uses social media platform - Facebook showcasing their treasures so customers and aficionados get to know about new items real-time!

These are some of the stuff I purchased over the past few months. 2 lamps with thin, golden base perfect for our tiny bedroom last week (see after pic). In line with the Great Gatsby theme *swoon*

Furniture finds in Singapore :: CB2

Stopped by CB2 last evening at Peranakan Place Complex (next to Centrepoint). Strangely when I heard that the showroom was 6000 sq feet, I was under the impression that it'll be massive. I have to say I was mildly disappointed.

CB2 home furnishings is catered mostly for small space living with sofa-beds, moveable bars, office pedestals etc so its perfect for us, city dwellers. On top of this, the staff are pretty friendly and willing to help. PLUS!

I personally singled out these cool items for my small apartment.

Amp up your home style for a party. Stainless steel snack bowl USD 19.95

Not enough space? Use walls! Wall mounted candle holders USD 1.95

If you don't have room for a home office, this moveable file cabinet is the answer USD 159

Yup, use the walls. Linear 12 bottle wine rack USD 49.95

Reminders of fabulous travels should start at home (Limited edition) City of domes wall hanging USD 129

Narrow hallway? Get the Foundry console table USD 299
This can double up as a make-shift bar during a party or shelves for books/knick-knacks. Peekaboo clear rolling two shelf USD 349

Furniture Finds in Singapore :: LUSH

Lush has contemporary furniture, accessories and lighting. They have new pieces quite often and the hubz and I love to drop by every now and then. There's no reason to not drop by as we are just a 5 min drive away.

We purchased quite a few pieces (side tables, chairs, mirrors) from Lush but if I had to do it all over again, I would stick to just the accessories rather than the tables and chairs. Our Eames replica in the study already gave way (!)

They used to have two showrooms but they moved out of the other one and consolidated all the furniture in one place with two levels. EVEN better for me!
Drooling yet?

Furniture finds in Singapore :: Crate and Barrel solutions for small spaces

You have no idea how thrilled I was when it was announced. I waited almost an entire year for it and now its finally opened at Ion Orchard. I'm very happy that we now have more options than IKEA and there are little home-decor shops coming up in our tiny island.

Its obvious now that new homeowners place much more importance to decor + functionality these days. Functionality because of the smaller apartments/shoebox units that are prevalent these days. Smaller doesn't mean one should compromise on style. I will be heading down to Crate & Barrel after work and since I think they have some great pieces for small spaces.

Era Console Table perfect for an entryway.

Ditto Smoke Cube is ever versatile. Use it as a side table, cluster two or more and use as a coffee table OR get this, you may stack up to four on top of each for storage purposes.

Willow Twin Sleeper Sofa for last minute overnight guests, because having another Queen/King bed is out of the question.

Rolling Shoe Rack. Move it, move it, move it!

Libations Bar Cart. No space for a bar? You can still have one!

Shopping frenzy

Yup. Went crazy in my new favorite furniture and home decorating 'shop' again!
How wonderful is the mirrored console above? We have one now!
Turquoise has always been one of my favorite colors. I got a lamp of that color to grace the entrance.
Purchased a long mirror similar to the one above, at a S.T.E.A.L. I am super pleased with my purchases.
Got silver fruits (!) at fabulous prices as I would like to replicate a chic vignette at the entryway. The fruits can be used as paperweights in my study too! Oh, can't wait.
